Technology-facilitated gender-based violence takes many forms, and account security is one of the ways it shows up in everyday digital life. Understanding how it works is the first step towards staying safer online.

Survivors often describe feeling isolated, unsure whether what they are experiencing is serious enough to report, or where to turn for help. HerSafeSpace was built so nobody has to work that out alone.

Start by documenting what is happening. Screenshots with visible dates, links to profiles and posts, and a simple written timeline can make a significant difference if you later decide to report the abuse or seek legal support.

Next, review the privacy and security settings on the accounts you use most. Turning on two-step verification, limiting who can see your posts and checking which apps are connected to your accounts all reduce the ways someone can reach you.
